一个真正有尊严的人，并不会死要面子。
敢认错，放弃“正确”的面子；敢示弱，放弃“强者”的面子；敢坚持真理，放弃“合群”的面子；敢无惧死亡，放弃“苟活”的面子。
苏格拉底放弃了“苟活”，伽利略放弃了“强者”，但他们都没有放弃尊严。因为尊严不在外界的眼光里，只在自己心里。
而这，恰恰是康德那句“人是目的，而不仅仅是手段”最锋利的含义：
当你不再需要用别人的眼光来证明自己时，你才真正成为了“目的本身”。
A truly dignified person does not obstinately cling to saving face.
They dare to admit mistakes, letting go of the pretense of being “right”; they dare to show vulnerability, abandoning the facade of being “strong”; they dare to uphold the truth, discarding the mask of “conformity”; they dare to face death, relinquishing the illusion of “mere survival.”
Socrates relinquished “mere survival,” Galileo abandoned the guise of the “strong,” yet neither ever surrendered their dignity. For dignity resides not in the eyes of others, but solely within oneself.
This is precisely the sharpest implication of Kant’s dictum that “man is an end in himself, not merely a means”:
Only when you no longer need others’ gaze to validate yourself do you truly become an “end in itself.”
